2018 Annual Meeting Papers

The 2018 Annual Meeting will be held at Lowes Ventana Canyon, Tucson, Arizona on October 24-26

Over the last 40 years, industrial energy production and use has changed. In a foregone time, the power plant was the center of a facility designed to last forever where energy projects were evaluated over the projected life of the plant, where coal was the most cost effective fuel and where steam was the energy source of choice for comfort heating and process requirements within the industrial, institutional and commercial sectors. Today, energy is perceived as a commodity, natural gas is the fuel of choice and the technology of electrification has developed to where it is the energy of choice for comfort heating and cooling. Now, energy projects are evaluated over the proposed product’s life and they have to meet sustainability goals and objectives. As a result, companies face a new challenge: how to transition away from the energy strategies of the past to ensure long-term profitability, environmental stewardship, and fuel/energy flexibility in today’s world. With this background, we have selected this year’s annual meeting theme

CIBO’s 40th Anniversary
Industrial Energy at a Crossroads:
The Next 40 Years.

Considering it is impossible to make or do anything without energy, we continue to believe energy production is a primary necessity of a vibrant domestic economy. However, in an era focused on sustainability, how do we juggle our need for energy with our need to protect the air, water and land? At this year’s Annual Meeting, CIBO will look at the changing operations environment and potential opportunities to meet these challenges. We will consider how to address day-to-day permitting issues, environmental compliance, and enforcement within this new energy era.
